Canvas
Pliers
This is the tool that is used for stretching canvas paintings onto
stretcher bars or a similar stretcher frame. These are the nicest
canvas pliers made.
Premium chrome plated steel canvas pliers with grooved teeth that
will securely grip any canvas. The spring handle gives extra resistance
while applying pressure.
How to stretch canvas paintings: To use grip the canvas using these
pliers, center the canvas onto the frame and staple the canvas on
the turned over edge. Staple all four sides in the middle of the
canvas only. After you have all four sides stapled in the middle
and your canvas is centered, work out each side from the middle
out, one side at at time, a little each side. Don't apply too much
pressure on canvas paintings. Beginners often apply too much pressure.
Canvas paintings work with humidity in the air and will crack when
the air is dry if they have been stretched too tightly in their
frame.

The above are the same picture framing tools as used in our picture
frame shop everyday. Each one has it's place in our picture frame
shop and serves it purpose well in the picture framing industry. The
stanley awl for example has a flat edge on one side. This stops the
tool from rolling off the workbench every time you sit it down. Most
other awls do not have this feature. This awl has a wooden handle
and is getting very hard to find. The measureing tape has very nice
markings, perfect for use on pictures, it operates easily and is locking.
Every picture framer needs the needle nose pliers and the wire cutter.

Professional Glass Cutter
Professional Glass Cutters work very well for cutting glass. It is
very easy to learn how to cut glass using one of these glass cutting
tools. The average home owner tries it and sometimes finds it difficult.
It is because they are either using an older tool which is no longer
sharp or because they are trying too hard. Usually the later. When
cutting glass just press down lightly but firmly and make a clean
quick score. Then just snap off the piece using either your fingers
or one of the small tabs on the glass cutter. Glass is actually a
liquid, not a solid. It heals itself, and the glass must be broken
off within three minutes of making the score. It is easy to cut glass,
just don't try so hard, or bare down so hard. All you need is a very
light score line, not a heavy indentation. If you make a light score
line and you look close and see missed spots in your score line, your
cutter is dull and you need to replace it. Not even a professional
picture framer can cut glass with a dull glass cutter. You can learn
how to cut glass. |

Framers Hammer
A light weight hammer that is used to pound picture framing nails
and picture frame wedges into frames. This is the same as used constantly
in our shop. Don't use those bigger 16 oz carpenters hammers on your
frames. You will end up damaging them. This 7 oz hammer is just the
perfect size for driving picture frame nails and picture frame v-nails.
This is a really nice little chrome head hammer. |
