Why Some Art Does Not Sell |
|||||
|
Remember those pictures hanging forever on the furniture store walls? Besides not having a great sales staff there is the possibility that the store owner has the wrong art hanging on his walls. There are many reasons why this may be. I have seen some great art hanging on walls that was framed all wrong. Maybe the mat colors did not match the art, the frame did not match the art or the art was not what his customers want. If you do not have the type of art people want, they are not going to buy it for any reason. If you got the art that people want they will buy it. Before buying art to place in your store or gallery you should first sit down and make a list of what types of people come into your store. If you have an art gallery, you definitely are going to attract a different crowd then a furniture store or restaurant. Then you need to make an educated guess at the average income levels of these customers. Do you have an upscale store selling exclusive items, or is yours the corner dollar store? You also need to take a look around your store and decide if you have the proper place to sell art, and can this place be lighted correctly. It is not a matter of room. A store with just one nice spot that holds only two or three pictures can outsell a much larger store with many pictures, and with the right sales staff properly trained they can do real well. |
