Who To Sell Art To!

There are three types of art buyers today.

First there are those people that want cheap art to hang on their walls. These people will find it in abundance in malls, department stores, almost everywhere including the internet. It is almost impossible to complete in this sitting today unless you can carry around 100 framed pictures in your store, advertise it heavily and are willing to sell art with a very small profit margin.

Then there are those that want only the finest art they can get. These people will pay thousands of dollars for just the frame let alone the art. These people tend to want only original works of art. It can be very difficult to find and stock this type of art, and unless your very knowledgeable about original works of art you can really end up losing your shirt. This type of art is usually only sold by the larger well established art galleries.

The third group of art buyer is the person that has quite a bit of basic knowledge about art. They are looking for nice art to fit their decor and they want it at a reasonable price. This group of people know all about plastic glazing, metal frames, and rag mats. This group of people won't usually buy the art until they have seen the backside. You see, they know what to look for to find quality art. These people are looking for art that generally sells under twenty five hundred dollars. Under a thousand is even better. They love limited edition prints but will also buy good quality open edition prints if framed and matted properly. They don't mind spending money to get good art.

The flip side is that these are the same people that will not even look at the cheap stuff. If you are considering selling to this crowd you must get your poorly framed art out of your store. Have a big sale or give it away, because if your thinking of going after this group of people, don't let them see a single junk picture in your store, make everything first class. These are the people you should be going after. You need good products and a well trained staff.
