Born in Rowan County, North Carolina, Bob Timberlake received no formal art education of training but instead, studied industrial relations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The artist worked as an executive in several family-owned business before he began painting professionally in 1970 at the encouragement of Andrew Wyeth. A self taught artist, Timberlake's paintings reflect his mastery of natures rich textures and subtle tonal variations. In describing his paintings, Timberlake once said: "art to me is about imagination. Its to be shared and enjoyed." Bob Timberlake has been the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of his extraordinary artistic talent as well as his service to a wide variety of charitable organizations. His work has appeared on several commemorative stamps as well as on a United States postal stamp. In addition to painting, Timberlakes extensive creative endeavors include home furnishings designs. The artist continues to paint in his Lexinton, North Carolina studio and in 1995 was honored by the North Carolina Museum of History with a twenty-fifth anniversary retrospective exhibition.
